Local Reach
A local approach to working in regions and sub-regions
CCN believes that local government is best placed to design sub-regional and regional arrangements to encourage effective working across administrative boundaries. Powers, functions and funding should be devolved from unelected regional and sub-regional bodies to elected local government, and to county authorities in continuing multi-tier areas.
Our work in this area includes lobbying for:
- Powers, functions and funding to be devolved from unelected regional and sub-regional bodies to elected local government, to unitary authorities, and to county authorities in continuing multi-tier areas.
- Any sub-regional or regional arrangements to be voluntary, based on whole LAA areas, and to enable local authorities as democratically accountable bodies to come together to work jointly in different patters and combinations depending on the issue under consideration.
