Local Economy
Building recovery locally
CCN believes that leading the local economy is a key component of local leadership, and that local government is best place to take any action to shield local communities through economic downturn and to direct support and investment for future growth.
Work will include lobbying for:
- Powers, funding and functions in key areas, including strategic economic development, spatial planning and investment, learning and skills, public transport planning to be devolved to elected local government, to unitary authorities and to county authorities in continuing multi-tier areas;
- Greater understanding of the differences between rural and urban economies, the interdependencies between them, and the contribution that the economies of CCN member authorities make to the national economy;
- Recognition of the role of CCN member authorities in driving sustainable economic development and communities.
