Cllr Hodge assesses the prospects for devolution to county areas, following speech from the Chancellor.

“Counties have long argued that the old model of running everything from London is broken and puts the national recovery at risk.

Today’s announcements on a Devolution Bill in the Queen’s Speech marks an important new stage in the national devolution debate.

CCN’s County Devolution report shows Counties are ready for devolution and ambitious to do more.

CCN will now work with Government to ensure the new legislation will enable both city and county devolution.

Today the County and District Councils Networks made a joint statement underlining the necessity of devolution beyond city boundaries in two-tier areas.

We will work with the Secretary of State to ensure counties get the devolution we need, using the County Devolution report to frame the discussion.”
