County Councils Network chairman: statement

In Thursday’s local elections, the current County Councils Network chairman David Williams lost his seat on Hertfordshire County Council.

As he is no longer a councillor, he cannot continue his role as chairman of the network.

A County Councils Network spokesperson said:

The local election result in Harpenden North East in Hertfordshire has resulted in the current County Councils Network (CCN) chairman not being re-elected as a councillor. Only sitting councillors can hold elected office under CCN’s constitution, and therefore David Williams will step down as from his position in due course,

“CCN’s director will now work with the network’s Executive Committee and CCN’s largest political group, the Conservative Group, to put in place the necessary interim arrangements for the leadership of the network. This is ahead of confirmation of the new CCN political balance and the election of new positions later this year.

“We would like to thank David Williams for all his dedicated service to local government and his leadership of the network during his tenure, particularly during the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic where he has played a critical role in shaping the response to Coronavirus on behalf of councils nationally and locally within Hertfordshire.”
