Report spotlights how counties are building homes of all tenures and raising the bar on standards

The County Councils Network today has released its latest County Spotlight report, and this edition shines a light on how unitary and county councils are delivering homes of all tenures, tackling homelessness, and improving standards.

The expanded version of the CCN's regular County Spotlight publication contains 23 case studies from across the network's membership as well as fresh insights from housing and planning experts in a roundtable convened by the CCN and its strategic partner Capita in July.

With the roundtable, participants raised concerns over the government's housing targets and debated the public's perception of these in local areas. The group discussed the ever-growing unaffordability of property prices and the impact this was having on demand within council-operated housing services, and the rise in homelessness and those needing temporary accommodation. The roundtable also discussed the latest government policy changes, including the advent of strategic planning and reorganisation, and how these will impact local areas.

In addition, the report contains new data insights on housing delivery, expenditure on homelessness and temporary accommodation, and the nationally-imposed housing targets for CCN members.

The report contains four themes, featuring several case studies for each of them:

  • Accelerating delivery: getting homes built
  • Opening doors: housing for all
  • Transforming lives: tackling homelessness
  • Homes for the future: raising standards
